Wind Energy Basics

This video provides an overview of the National Wind Technology Center and its research. Video produced for NREL by Fireside Production. We have been harnessing the wind’s energy for hundreds of years. From old Holland to farms in the United States, windmills have been used for pumping water or grinding grain. Today, the windmill’s modern equivalent—a wind turbine—can use the wind’s energy to generate electricity. How It Works Wind turbines, like windmills, are mounted on a tower to capture the most energy. At 100 feet (30 meters) or more aboveground, they can take advantage of the faster and less turbulent wind. Turbines catch the wind’s energy with their propeller-like blades. Usually, two or three blades are mounted on a shaft to form a rotor. A blade acts much like an airplane wing. When the wind blows, a pocket of low-pressure air forms on the downwind side of the blade. The low-pressure air pocket then pulls the blade toward it, causing the rotor to turn. This is called lift. The force of the lift is actually much stronger than the wind’s force against the front side of the blade, which is called drag. The combination of lift and drag causes the rotor to spin like a propeller, and the turning shaft spins a generator to make electricity.

Maple Honda will install a private wind turbine at its new dealership in a unique partnership with Power Stream. In keeping with leading edge technology pioneered by Honda Motor Co. Maple Honda has taken the innovative step of integrating energy efficiency in an automotive work place. “This is a new venture for both Power Stream and our leading regional automotive dealership. Our goal is to provide a tangible model for alternative energy options in Ontario. The Production of wind energy creates no air pollution and, if the turbines are sited properly, has minimal environmental impact.” says Mr. Zanchin. This is the first commercial-scale use of wind power to generate electricity in the region. The wind turbine will provide supplemental wind power to Maple Honda, and will produce approximately 110 MWH/Yr-which is the equivalent of powering 17 homes. It removes 82.5 tons of CO2 emissions/Yr and is completely Canadian made. Maple Honda will open for business in early fall 2006.

We are currently seeking investors, and manufacturing companies to license, purchase patent rights, or enter into a royalty agreement for this, and our other inventions from “DW”- the inventors of this innovative new product. When you think about it, almost every great advance in medicine, art, engineering, politics, religion, design, and RULES FOR THINKING, in general, has occured when people challenged the previous rules of thought and tried a new approach. Here’s a unique inexpensive use for bamboo to make a vertical windmill. This is a new “spin” for bamboo! Let’s get this inexpensive vertical wind turbine product producing power in India, Africa, Asia, and other tropical bamboo growth areas globally. (pp) The power output can be adjusted to suit the given resource of wind currents from any direction. We have a solar photovoltaic componet add-on at high speed rotation as a hybrid energy additive for storage or kick laucnhing the “first motions”! (rotational inertia) It is said that fully 70% of the economy in areas of India come from bamboo products. Here’s one that produces energy & money long after it’s built. In addition, solar cells have been shown to last 25 years or more, so the additional high rpm solar umbrella on top, is a must! With this VAWT, ALL WINDS ARE ACCEPTED FROM ALL DIRECTIONS! (no tail fin needed) Also, this VAWT has easy, low to the ground maintenance, –and cheap materials & as always, it’s “cost per watt” to the bottem $$$$$$- line. To capture a

Industrial Wind Turbine Shadow Flicker in Wisconsin 2008

In Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, in spite of what wind developers and wind lobbyists say, the 1000 foot setback is not a sufficient distance between homes and wind turbines that are 40 stories tall. There are indeed problems with noise and shadow flicker at this distance. Ask people in the town of Byron in Fond du Lac what they think of the 1000 foot setback.

tinyurl.com The present economic scenario and the ever-shrinking state of the global oil reserves is not good news for everyone. But on a positive note it makes us investigate for alternative energy sources that is become the solution of cutting down present and the future energy consumption, particularly in terms of fossil fuel usage like oil. For example, it has become more and more economical to build home made solar energy system. Building the home made solar panels that utilize deep cell storage batteries produce the electricity upon consumer demand and reduce the their individual dependence on the country’s energy grid. Who is there in the world who does not wish to have the energy bills get reduced by 80% or more? Many of us shall want to take advantage of such a great deal. If such is the demand then follow the guide Earth4Energy that offers lot of fantastic home made solar solutions on their site, which can be built easily, for the low cost of less than 0. The Features of the guide are – • Full and detailed instructions given which can be easily understood by a layman or the unskilled for building a home made solar panel. • Other details on how to obtain the components available in the neighborhood material store for preparing the home made solar system. • Few Tips on how to construct the alternative energy generators that is not readily available anywhere else. • One time investment – and life long updates to the manual and video series, at no additional cost
